Note from Sean Ferrer

Dear Friends,

In 1994, Robert Wolders, my mother's companion for the last 12 years of her life, my brother Luca and I created the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund to continue the work she started as UNICEF Ambassador in 1988 and which ended so abruptly with her passing in 1993.

As Robby so aptly put it:
Audrey never, it seems to me, strove or hoped to leave a lasting legacy with her films. Certainly she was tickled by the fact that so many of them had become as popular as they did.

What I feel she would have wanted, had she been given more time, would have been to continue her efforts on behalf of children - because she knew it is a never-ending task with much still to be accomplished. If there is anything she would have wished for it is that her work be continued.

Audrey's innate sense of modesty kept her from ever becoming fully aware of the impact she had - through her work with UNICEF - in raising awareness of the plight of children.

Given the immense love and tenderness she felt for her own children - the knowledge of having inspired them to continue her work would have been her greatest reward.

There is no doubt that this mission, she so diligently pursued on the behalf of the less fortunate children of the World, is today the legitimate core of her legacy.
We have strived to follow in her larger than life footprints and what we learned over the past 15 years is that our civilization has the means to prevent the injustice and poverty we witness everyday all around us -- It has the resources to empower those who are unable to sustain themselves through education and help them construct a basic infrastructure that will support the blossoming of their nations and cultures.
The deficit lies in our lack of will, our own human frailty, stemming mostly from the honest misconception that we have helped and that since this help hasn't made a difference, hasn't somehow changed the course of these nations' history, then it must signify that the problem is unsolvable. And so we also rely on our Governments to do the right thing and meet the ever growing cost of these emergencies worldwide.
The problem isn't unsolvable and we mustn't solely rely on a quiet hope that our overburdened government will do the right thing; We must tell them this is a priority clearly and firmly.
Please join, in any way you can, and help us guard our future generations from what could otherwise be the greatest loss of our civilization.

Thank you,
Sean Hepburn Ferrer
